I'm going to stock up on Larder, and already can't wait to come back. This is the kind of restaurant London needs; one that has gone back to basics, both on the menu and in its soul. After only a short period of being open, it has claimed a place high up in the capital's pecking order. Why? Because it serves simple, traditional dishes, and does them very, very well indeed.

The Larder has a reverence for ingredients befitting its name, and a skilled kitchen with a sturdy grasp of technique. This is a restaurant that will serve you lunch and make your dinner, and send you home happy without charging you a fortune, a restaurant for people who like eating, as opposed to people who like going to restaurants, and there can be no higher praise.

What I am trying to say is that it is the kind of restaurant that should be on every second street corner, but is curiously the sort of place that is hard to find.

These may be simple dishes, but it is a Michelin star standard of cooking at a bargain price.

For a long time, this buzzy area close to Smithfield has lacked a no-nonsense eatery that has managed to stand the test of time.

But hope has arrived at last in the form of The Larder. the décor is perfect: big wooden tables, an open kitchen and a central seating area where you can read the Evening Standard before dinner.

Mark Bolland, Evening Standard Magazine, July 2007.

With food as fresh as it gets and a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere, head for The Larder. It definitely beats rustling around in your own pantry.
